You’re Not Being Overlooked. You’re Being Filtered.
If your inbox is quieter than it should be… it’s not the market. It’s how you’re being interpreted before anyone ever evaluates you.
The Invisible Filter Most Leaders Never See
Most senior leaders believe opportunity is tied to experience.
It’s not.
It’s tied to interpretation.
And that interpretation happens in seconds.
Before your resume is opened or your name is discussed. Before you’re even considered,
you are being categorized.
Quietly, instantly and often incorrectly.
This week, I’m breaking down five patterns I’m seeing right now that are quietly limiting access at the executive level.
🔹 Executive Reframe #1: Your About Section Is Compressing You
Most About sections don’t fail because of lack of experience.
They fail because they sound like everyone else.
“20+ years of experience…” “Proven track record…” “Strategic, results-driven leader…”
At a certain level, that doesn’t differentiate you.
It compresses you.
And when that happens, something very specific happens:
You don’t get rejected.
You get filtered out before anyone evaluates you.
Because decision-makers aren’t reading your profile in depth.
They’re scanning.
And asking one question:
👉 What level is this person operating at?
If your About section doesn’t answer that clearly…
You get categorized as: → experienced → capable → interchangeable
Which means your real value—your Brilliance Blindspot™—
Never gets seen.
And if it’s not seen…
It can’t be selected.

🔹 Executive Reframe #2: Not Every Opportunity Is an Opportunity
A client forwarded me what looked like a strong opportunity.
And SVP role at PepsiCo with global scope.
On paper, it checked every box.
But then the cracks showed.
The recruiter had a gmail address, but no firm or hiring context.
And most importantly: No answers to real questions.
Instead: “Kindly share your resume.”
That’s not how retained search operates.
That’s data gathering.
And this is where most leaders get it wrong.
They ask: “Is this real?”
Instead of: “Does this increase my leverage?”
Because even if it’s real…
The wrong intermediary will: → misposition you → waste your time → dilute your signal
Your brand is not just what you say.
It’s what you engage with.
🔹 Executive Reframe #3: You’re Not Screening Opportunities Enough
I had a conversation recently that stopped me.
“I spent weeks preparing… but never thought about how to interview them.”
That’s the blind spot.
At this level, you are not just being evaluated.
You are evaluating:
→ leadership → decision-making → cultural truth → power dynamics
Most leaders research:
→ financials → Glassdoor → surface insights
But they don’t ask:
→ What happens when things go wrong? → Who actually holds power? → What’s the real turnover story?
The best leaders don’t just ask for a seat.
They make sure it’s a table worth sitting at.
🔹 Executive Reframe #4: Your Resume Might Be Working Against You
The resume isn’t dead.
But the wrong one will quietly stall your momentum.
Most resumes look good.
Few actually work.
Because they’re built around:
→ templates → outdated advice → what used to work
Instead of:
👉 what your next employer actually values
The best resumes are not the most polished.
They’re the most aligned.
Aligned to: → business impact → strategic value → future mandate
Because every hiring decision answers one question:
👉 “What’s in it for me?”
This week’s poll: Which resume has worked best for you?
Value-driven
Metric-focused
Narrative-led
Traditional
🔹 Executive Reframe #5: Visibility Without Alignment Is Noise
If recruiters aren’t reaching out…
It’s not because you’re not qualified.
It’s because you’re not being seen at the right level.
The most sought-after leaders:
→ are not applying → are not broadcasting → are not chasing
They are:
👉 positioned to be found 👉 categorized correctly 👉 surfaced at the right level
Visibility alone doesn’t create opportunity.
Alignment does.
The Pattern Behind All of This
These are not separate issues.
They are all signals of one thing:
👉 You are being interpreted below where you operate
And until that shifts…
Everything else stays constrained.

Final Thought
You are not overlooked.
You are not behind.
You are not stuck.
You are being filtered before you are evaluated.
And once you see it…
You can change it.
